The Xbox series X is a beast. Not only is it one of the most powerful gaming options on the market, but it also has a catalog of ready-made games to play through Game Pass, one of the best value subscription services. of all entertainment.

But beyond that, both the Xbox series X|S and the PS5 the impression that they are taking on steam. Both are still extremely hard to find, given the shortages, but are finally at the tipping point where there are enough quality titles to justify buying.

Where to start ? This is where we come in. We’ve compiled a list of some must-have games on Xbox Series X|S. Let’s go!

Without a doubt, Elden Ring is the best game of 2022 so far. It’s also probably the biggest and biggest release on current-gen consoles to date.

Developed by FromSoftware, the team behind legendary games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Elden Ring takes the foundations and DNA of previous From games and places them in an extremely large and detailed open world. It is one of the best video games ever made.

Microsoft

Given Halo Infinite’s troubled development history, it’s impossible to see this game as anything more than a searing comeback. Multiplayer has taken a few hits over the past few months due to its lack of new updated content, but the core is rock solid.

Then there is the single player. Placing players in a near-open world, Halo Infinite takes its world-class shooter into the stratosphere. The best part? The brand new grappling hook, which transforms the basic mechanics of the game and allows players to navigate open spaces more efficiently. It’s the best Halo game since Halo: Reach.

Forza Horizon 5 was by far the best driving game released in 2021, but it’s arguably one of the best racing games ever made. It won multiple Game of the Year awards in 2021, an extremely rare feat for a racing game. It’s kind of like an Oscar-winning comedy or action movie, which should tell you how much you need to play Forza Horizon 5.

Psychonauts 2 had a lot going against it. First of all, it was a crowd-funded game. It rarely ends well. Second, it was a long-awaited sequel to a cult classic. To put it simply: I expected nothing but crushing disappointment for Psychonauts fans.

I was wrong. Psychonauts 2 doesn’t have to be as good as it is.

A warped, highly stylized platformer about an international task force that uses psychic abilities, Psychonauts 2 is anything but generic. It’s also well-written, polished, and just a damn good video game. Play it and be amazed.

Released in 2021, It Takes Two has won numerous game of the year awards and deservedly so. Essentially a co-op platforming puzzler, few games have the level of invention and polish that It Take Two possesses.

Two parents, on the verge of divorce, are reduced to the size of a toy following a strange curse. They – and you the players – must work together to solve puzzles, overcome obstacles and defeat bosses. It is a phenomenal experience from start to finish.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

Look, it’s not for everyone, but Microsoft Flight Simulator absolutely rules. It’s a beautifully rendered update of an old classic. If you’re obsessed with airplanes or flying or anything related to those two things, this is a must-play game. It’s also worth downloading just to watch.

It is so beautiful.

Devolve

Death’s Door takes elements of Zelda, Metroid, and Dark Souls, then merges them into a perfectly polished, slightly retro package. Anyone who grew up playing classic RPGs up and down in the 90s will love this.

But it’s more than nostalgia – Death’s Door has been honed to a refined sheen. Every move and every swing of the sword is rewarding. An absolutely brilliant little game.

Finji

Tunic has a lot in common with Death’s Door. It’s a top-down RPG influenced by 90s action RPGs like Zelda, but also mixes aspects of Dark Souls into its repertoire.

But Tunic is way more Dark Souls than Zelda. It’s more complex in its level design and much more difficult. This may turn players off at first, but I recommend persisting. The more you put into Tunic, the more you get out.

He also does this cool tribute thing, where you feel like you’re playing a game imported from another country and you don’t understand the language? Very smooth. Very cool.

Digital Mobius

It’s not necessarily an Xbox Series X game – it was originally released on Xbox One. But you can play it on Xbox Series X and you’re absolutely should play it on Xbox Series X.

A bizarre sci-fi mystery waiting to be uncovered, Outer Wilds is set in a living solar system that is both small, but also formidable in its ambition and execution.

It’s a game filled with jaw-dropping moments that feel organic in a way few games can match. I cannot stress this enough: play this video game.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

In a world filled with Metroid clones, Ori and the Will of the Wisps stand out a mile away. It’s beautiful and seamless, each frame is a painting. Perhaps more importantly, it’s also a joy to play. The game’s movement is precise, heavy, and beautifully animated. It’s one of my favorite games on any Xbox console. An essential game.

Improve, Inc.

Buying a new console for a puzzle game seems odd (unless your memories of the PSP Lumines launch game are as good as mine), but Tetris Effect was way more exciting than your typical puzzle game. It was named Game of the Year by several publications, a usual feat for a game in its category. Tetris Effect: Connected, the Xbox Series X and PS5 version, adds online co-op and competitive multiplayer.

Microsoft

Control is a relatively old game, but the Xbox Series X version is optimized for performance on current-gen consoles and looks better than just about any new game you can name. He also reigns.

Few games are as elegant as Control. It’s a third-person shooter, but it’s just… different. Big budget video games rarely take as much risk as Control. There is no other game like this.
