Spike Lee Brings Back Mars Blackmon In “She’s Gotta Have It” NFT Collection
The legendary filmmaker’s first NFT collection via content incubator, The Visible Project, will include 3,945 handpicked original images from his debut film “She’s Gotta Have It.”
The film introduced the world to Lee’s character, Mars Blackmon, who eventually appeared in Nike’s Air Jordan commercials alongside Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, where the iconic phrase, “It must be the shoes,” is born.
“It was really my kids who introduced me to NFTs,” Lee told Boardroom. “When they started talking to me about it — my daughter Satchel and my son Jackson — it was very interesting to me. It didn’t take long for me to think about [the fact] that I own the rights to my first movie, ‘She’s Gotta Have It.'”
Lee’s collection does not yet have a release date or price set.
Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins joins NFT Genius’ Ballerz for a unique NFT auction with proceeds going to KultureCity, a nonprofit (which Wilkins chairs) on sensory accessibility and people acceptance with an invisible disability.
Per boardroom, the Wilkins NFT is a one-time exclusive that will be auctioned off with signed Wilkins memorabilia, in-person experiences with Wilkins, premium tickets to a Hawks game in Wilkins seats and more.
“It’s a great opportunity for all of us to understand now, for people with special needs, how important their lives are,” Wilkins told Boardroom. “It continues to shine a light. And the most important thing is to give opportunities to people who don’t have the possibility to improve their lives.”
