“Hello! I’m Nur Ozdamar (@nurozdamar). I was born and raised in Istanbul, spent much of my life in Turkey, lived in New York for ten years and now resides in South West London. I moved here four months before the outbreak. But fortunately London is one of the best walking cities in the world and the restrictions have not taken me long walks.I live near one of the most beautiful parks and I go there several times a week with my dog Rosa.
I’ve been working in music for over 12 years and now lead Artist and Label Development on YouTube. We help music artists and publishers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa learn how to use YouTube to share their stories. My six-member team is the best in the world and we are big fans of our amazing partners: Tems, Arlo Parks, Pa Salieu, Rote Mütze Raphi, COLORS, Meekz and many others. I have a big heart for educating and developing talent, whether it’s my peers, co-workers or partners, so I really feel that what I eat complements my meaning in life. Like everyone else, I watch a lot of videos on YouTube every day for fun, education and inspiration. I continue when I need to figure out how to do a face lifting massage or apply a metallic eyeliner, then one click leads to another and I find myself watching a video about the history of stretch makeup. I know so many people who learned to cut their hair or make their nails during a pandemic by watching videos on YouTube.
My beauty award comes from my grandmother. She was always a beautiful woman effortlessly, but I noticed that she preferred anything she felt good about. She always took time to take care of herself, while raising a large family of many. She died last year – I saved the last skin cream she used and kept it on the bedside table. It reminds me to make more time for myself. We always exchanged cosmetic gifts, which I miss a lot. I know I look best when I’m happy and relaxed, so I try to listen to my body and mind, figure out what’s good for me, and regulate my products and routine accordingly. My skin responds immediately to everything, be it stress or a chocolate bar. If you asked me about my routine next year, I’m sure I would have other answers.
I start my day with a quick meditation and walk around the block with Rosa. When I get home, I splash cold water on my face to wake me up and wipe it off with light toner from Avène, which smells divinely. The serum depends on how my skin feels: If my skin is stressed, I choose Paula’s Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster, and if not, I mix a few drops of Melanie Simon’s Serum C with Fenty Beauty Fat Water or Chanel Le Lift Lotion. My favorite moisturizer is Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream, which was recommended to me by my colleague Steph, a skin care specialist. I use Skinceuticals Ultra Facial Defense SPF 50 every day, even if I don’t leave the apartment. And in the application of everything, I always do a lymphatic massage, which I learned from my girlfriend Frederika van Hagen’s IG to wake up the skin and reduce swelling. I warmly recommend. Finally, I spray clean rose water from my favorite Turkish brand Homemade Aromatherapy, which I keep in the fridge. Usually rose waters contain a lot of random chemicals or artificial scents, but this one is clean and smells like heaven.
Since I’m already in the kitchen, I make morning smoothies (oat milk, matcha, bee pollen, Vida Glow Marine Collagen and Glow Bar adaptogens) and supplements that I have chosen for overall health and skin support. My line is BioCare CO10Q and Glutathione Complex, Altrient’s Liposomal Vitamin C, BetterYou’s D 1000 and Boost B12 and Anatome’s Daily Biotic + Gut Support. Always consult a doctor before trying something new. During the day, I also drink Melez Tea’s Beauty Blend, a delicious floral white tea.
My daily makeup starts with Chanel Les Beiges Water Tint in MediumCharlotte Tilbury Fair / Medium Contour Wand and Pat McGrath Divine Blush inside Naked Venus. I use KKW Beauty’s Eye Contour Duo in Light [Ed note: discontinued] and black Natasha Denona Macro Blade Liquid Liner. (Although this opportunity arises, I love their liquid Chromium eye shadow Infra Nude.) The base under the mascara is magical – I use one from Dior under my Milk Makeup Kush Mascara. I used to lengthen my lashes, but that primer does. I keep my eyebrows as natural as possible, I’ll just tame them a little Anastasia’s Brow Freeze Styling Wax. Either Vaseline is good on the lips, or I use a combination of Dior Addict Stellar Gloss v 640 J’Adoir with NYX lip pencil Naked Truffles. This is the best nude insert – a friend introduced me to her.
I spend more time taking care of myself several times a week, which means that I brush my body dry with Clarins Tonic Body Firming Treatment Oil or take a very long bath with a body peeling. I love Homemade Aromatherapy’s Rose Body Scrub and my good friend Marina got me an amazing from the Humlegården And Other Stories series. [Ed note: that one’s discontinued, but there are others] For birthday. I usually wear a face mask in the bath. Radiance Mask Tata Harpera is the most popular. I also use an LED mask two or three times a week – once every few months I go to the Light Salon to get a professional dose, but the home version was a great investment. Faces are a rare delicacy. I have several favorites around the world: Sarah Bradden in London (a real spiritual reset), SB Skin in NY (a great person with magical procedures), Dr. Dray in London and Paris (I get mesolifts, medical cocktail hyaluronic acid and antioxidants), SaintlySkin in Spain (she knows her tools and facial massages) and Merve Akkaya in Istanbul (to pamper herself from head to toe). As for anything more invasive, the only person I entrust to my face is the amazing Aysun Mamak.
I recently met Sami Knight, a sensational celebrity hairdresser who is responsible for all of Adele’s elegant recent looks. He mentioned that Adele does a lot of hydration treatments and avoids heat as much as possible, two tips that have affected my current routine. I have good hair (thanks to my Turkish DNA), although pure almond oil and Kérastase Nutritive and Discipline products keep them healthy. Also: The K18 Leave-Free Molecular Hair Mask really works. I have been paying much more attention to hand and nail care since I met a great nail artist named Karolina. He makes a cruel French mani gel and got me into Byredo Suede and Tulipmania Hand Scrubs and Dior Crème Abricot. I also love the L’Occitane Amande hand cream my neighbor gave me. When I make my nails myself, I start with a strengthening base from Nailtiques and use a clean, naked color like Chanel La Base protective and smoothing.
Before I go to bed, I will do a thorough cleansing with something oil-based that is absorbed into the skin, such as Elemis’ Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm or Medik8 Lipid Balance Cleansing Oil. Apply to dry skin and wipe with a wet cloth. I take off my eye makeup with a Turkish regular: Bebak Almond Milk. It smells divine and removes makeup like no other product. If I feel I still need to clean up after that, I’ll use Dr. Enzyme Cleaner. Sturma, a cult product I will never use. My night products are thick so my skin can absorb them when I sleep. I usually use Estée Lauder’s Night Repair followed by Biologique Recherche’s Crème ADN Elastin Marine Collagène Marin. If I feel that my skin needs a little more moisture, I will use either Disciple’s Dreamy Skin Retinyl Oil or Chanel’s Camellia Repair Mask. When I don’t forget the eye cream, I love the Ceramidin line from Dr. Jarta. It’s super simple and moisturizing and pairs perfectly with my reusable Dieux Forever silicone eye masks.
I get a lot of energy from people, so the pandemic was especially difficult for me. Nowadays, I try to spend as much time with people (virtually or personally) as the universe allows. I also make sure to step away from the screens, go out for a quick walk, or read a book. But for me, spending time with a dog is the best and easiest way to unwind. Rosa is very loving – even though she is hyperactive, her fluffy presence makes everything better. “
