As a beautician, I’m always asked what my favorite celebrity makeup brand is, and the answer is always super easy and quick. For me it was O-Face since its first drop in 2021. I’m not necessarily a Halsey music fan, so I’m not biased; rather it is strictly based on my knowledge of good products. That said, I’ve basically tried everything minus the brand Eyeliner Longwear Gel eyeliner About-Face’s Line Artist. However, after it won the Best of Beauty Award in 2022, I decided I definitely had to give it a try.
Full disclosure: I didn’t test the eyeliners for the Best of Beauty testing process, so I had no word on the winner—and truth be told, eyeliners aren’t something I reach for often enough to test a flurry of them. But over the years in the beauty industry, I’ve learned what makes a good eyeliner. For me it’s all about the pigment, color range, easy glide and longevity. With this checklist in mind, I decided it was time to try Line Artist and put it to the personal test.
This eyeliner claims to be smudge, water and sweat resistant and comes in 13 super vibrant colors (no surprise given About-Face’s color track record). Upon his arrival at the door, I immediately noticed that it was packed with a retractable sharpener. In the eyes of my lazy beauty editor, this is a big plus because I no longer have the time or energy to use sharpeners. Although About-Face was generous enough to send me every single shade, I immediately gravitated towards Sadgrl, a matte cobalt blue.
I never wear color in my makeup. I’m more of a soft glam girl, so this was a new path for me. I applied all of my base makeup, including my favorite About-Face Cheek Freak Blush Balm, and created a graphic look with liner. Note that I wore foundation on my lids, but I set them with a setting powder (I’m currently using Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder) because my lids can get oily during the day.
From there, the app felt second to none. The eyeliner glided on easily and created straight lines that required no real effort. The pigment is also what I call a one-swipe wonder, meaning the pink shade only needed one coat to show its vibrancy and I didn’t feel the need to layer more pigment. I wore this graphic look all day and all night, and it was still intact when I got home. As for the removal process, I was worried it would struggle as it seemed so resistant – but with just a pea-sized amount of my Banila Co Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm, the formula broke up and dissolved easily.
This liner really passed all the tests for me. Its color range is incredible; it’s easy to use and the pigment really is the star of any makeup. The Eyeliner Longwear Gel eyeliner About-Face’s Line Artist she may have officially turned me into an eyeliner girl and I’m super proud of it. You can purchase this liner for $13 at ulta.com.
